London Train Hero: The Story of Samir Zitouni's Brave Act (2025)

A Train Worker's Heroic Act: Protecting Passengers During a Knife Attack

London: In a display of bravery and selflessness, a train worker named Samir Zitouni, 48, has been hailed as a hero for his actions during a knife attack on a high-speed train service to London. As the attacker stabbed passengers at random, Zitouni, known as Sam, was one of the first to confront the assailant, shielding passengers and putting himself in harm's way.

British ministers and the public have praised Zitouni's courage, with his family expressing gratitude for the hospital staff's care and the support from his colleagues at the London North Eastern Railway (LNER).

The attacker, Anthony Williams, a 32-year-old British national, has been charged with 11 counts of attempted murder, one count of actual bodily harm, and one count of possessing a bladed article. He appeared in court on Monday without entering a plea and is set to return on December 1.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the attacker moved through the carriages, and Zitouni's actions were crucial in protecting passengers. Amira Ostalski, a witness, shared that the conductor shielded passengers and was stabbed as a result, highlighting the conductor's bravery and quick thinking.

The LNER's managing director, David Horne, praised Zitouni's actions, stating, 'In a moment of crisis, Sam did not hesitate as he stepped forward to protect those around him.'

The train driver, Andrew Johnson, also received praise for contacting a signaller to divert the train to a safe location, allowing it to be brought to a halt at Huntingdon station. Johnson emphasized the bravery of his colleagues, who were the real heroes of the incident.

The British Transport Police reported a swift response, taking only eight minutes from the first phone call to emergency services to the arrest of the suspect at Huntingdon. The police are also investigating the attacker's possible links to a series of violent incidents in and around his hometown of Peterborough.

The attack resulted in 11 people being hospitalized, with most having been discharged. Four individuals remain in a stable condition in the hospital. This incident has left a lasting impact on the community, with many praising the heroic actions of the train staff and emergency responders.
